William L. “Chip” Sharkey, Jr.

Chip has over 45 years in Human Resources & Employee Development. He has been responsible for hiring and training over 100,000 people, spending the first 20 years of his career in the family entertainment industry, opening Opryland, USA, Nashville, TN in 1972 and Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA in 1975 as Director of Human Resources & General Services. He worked on the development of two other theme parks in the US & Spain. He spent 15 years with the Lillian Vernon Corporation, and Direct Holdings Worldwide (a multi-channel direct marketing firm) as Sr. Vice-President of Human Resources. He joined Naylor Association Solutions in 2006 as VP of HR & Employee Development, from where he recently retired. He is a graduate of the College of HHP at UF, where he was the first Intern from HHP in commercial recreation, and was inducted into the College’s Hall of Fame in 2011. He has a master’s degree in Human Resource Development from American University in Washington, DC. Chip resides in Surry, VA with his wife of 37 years, Joann. He is a lay reader for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and has been active with many organizations including leadership roles with the United Way, Junior Achievement, Jackson Field Home and the VA Chamber of Commerce Management Relations Committee. He continues to be involved in HR consulting.
